The Russian State Library, together with the Ministry of Digital Development, has begun preparations for the round table “Reading Russia: Education of Leaders”, which will be held on October 26.
The event will be devoted to various aspects of reading, discussing the skills that need to be instilled in young people so that they read more, evaluating library promotion methods. According to the organizers, the main goal of the round table is to foster a culture of family reading, increase the interest of children and adolescents in reading, and the growth of reading literacy, which, by the way, is tested by a study conducted according to the standards of the international PISA survey. (It assesses the level of reading literacy of fifteen-year-old schoolchildren, their ability to understand the text and complete tasks on the text)
The event will be held in a face-to-face format. You can watch the broadcast here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=K0czwj9Jkac&feature=youtu.be. In anticipation of the round table, on Monday, October 24, the International Day of the School Librarian will be celebrated. This Day has been celebrated since 1999 at the initiative of UNESCO and its task is not only to celebrate the work of school librarians, their role in shaping the interest in reading among children and adults, but also to popularize the profession of “librarian”.
