With bitter irony, residents of the village of Staroe Aktashevo, Tsivilsky district of Chuvashia, took their forced quarantine after three of its residents became infected with anthrax. “Eclipse the glory of Wuhan?” they joke. But these jokes are not funny…

There are almost 80 households in Old Astashevo, and officially more than 230 residents live here. 90 of them are now targeted, that is, at risk. They should carefully monitor their health – will specific rashes appear on the skin, which are called carbuncles? The incubation period of the disease is 3-5 days, so seven days of isolation is enough to identify possible infected people. However, people are extremely dissatisfied with the current state of affairs.

“You can’t buy meat on the market now, but it turns out you can’t even cook soup,” says Vasily, a local resident. – We used to take milk from a neighbor for cheap, 40 rubles per liter, and now, imagine, you can’t even buy milk! By the way, there was no delivery to the store today. What are we to do now, sit on bread and water?

However, there are those who hold a fundamentally different opinion. For example, Alexei was sure before that buying meat at the local market was a lottery.

“A long time ago I forbade all households to take fresh meat from private traders,” he says. – Do you think we do not sell stamping out? Sell! And when you constantly buy meat from the same saleswoman, it happens that she herself quietly whispers: “Today, don’t take it from me, take it from a neighbor!” Is this normal, do you think?

The general mood of the villagers is rather dreary. You can’t go anywhere, you can’t invite guests, you’re scared for your animals – what if a case begins among them? But at the same time, none of the “humans” is afraid to add to the list of cases. Having read about anthrax on the Internet, the citizens concluded that nothing threatens them: the disease is not transmitted from person to person, and long-term cooking guarantees meat safety – for 2.5 hours. Only and everything!

– The natural susceptibility of a person is really low, – says Larisa Solovieva, head of the medical prevention department of the Vidnovskaya Regional Clinical Hospital, – the development of the disease occurs in 20% of people who have contact with the pathogen. In 95% of cases, the disease occurs in the skin form. Very rarely the lungs are affected.
