The profession of weather forecaster remains rare in Russia, where there are only about 2 thousand specialists. Despite this, weather forecasting is an important element for the entire country, emphasized Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, in an interview with the press.
March 23 is World Meteorology Day. On this day in 1950, the Convention establishing the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) came into force.
In his speech, Vilfand noted that interest in weather has always been stable. He emphasized that meteorological information has always occupied an important place and was in demand by a wide audience. The specialist also emphasized that there are not enough weather forecasters in Russia – only about 2 thousand people. This is a profession that is extremely rare, Vilfand noted.
The expert also emphasized that weather forecasting is necessary not only for everyday life, but is also important for various sectors of the economy and areas of human activity, such as aviation, shipping, construction, mining and others.
