The storm in Crimea became the most powerful in the history of meteorological observations, confirmed the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand. Earlier, adviser to the head of the republic Oleg Kryuchkov said that this had never happened in Crimea.
“Yes, it is,” Mr. Vilfand commented to RIA Novosti on his statement.
He said that on November 14, 1854, there was a “strong storm” in Balaklava, when more than 30 ships sank off the coast during the Crimean War. But this case does not count, since “we had no observations then,” explained the head of the Hydrometeorological Center.
On November 25–27, a storm warning is in effect in Crimea due to heavy rains, snowfall and winds up to 40 m/s. As a result of the storm, almost 500 thousand people remained no light, one person died. Peninsula authorities called residents should not use personal transport for transportation. In the Museum-Aquarium of Sevastopol due to flooding died 500 sea animals.
