For most regions of Russia, the last month of summer has become the driest. This was stated by the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand. He stressed that in some regions of the country not a drop of rain fell during the month. Tatarstan, Ulyanovsk and Astrakhan regions lived through August without precipitation.
In the Center the situation was no better. In the Moscow region, precipitation was 18% of the norm. And in Moscow – no more than 5%. Ryazan, Yaroslavl, Vladimir and Kaluga regions also saw almost no rain. This all led to forest fires that were difficult to extinguish.
At the same time, Crimea was flooded throughout August. Up to 120% of the monthly norm fell there – up to 20 mm of precipitation per day. The Far East region was also flooded. In some areas, the norm was exceeded three times.
