Greenpeace accused of political activity and fraud

Sergey Ivanov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport, said that the Russian branch of Greenpeace is engaged in politically motivated activities and falsification, and this organization needs to be “punished”.
Ivanov made the corresponding statement, speaking at the Ecosystem forum in Kamchatka on Friday. As an example, he cited the situation with the mass death of marine animals in Kamchatka in 2020, when Greenpeace announced the pollution of the Pacific coast with heptyl, adding a “yellow spot” to the image from space. At the same time, scientists at Moscow State University came to the conclusion that the death occurred due to natural causes.
Ivanov also noted that Greenpeace opposes the construction of incinerators, but only in Russia. “This is a policy that has nothing to do with ecology,” he said.
Greenpeace itself replied that the Russian branch of the organization is not engaged in political activities and is funded “only by private donations, which ensures independence from politics and business.”
