Pyotr Baklanov was born on July 5, 1946 in the village of Georgievka (Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic). In 1997 he was elected a corresponding member, and in 2003 – an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Mr. Baklanov was an honorary professor at the Institute of Geography and Agroecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, for many years he headed the Department of Geography at FEFU, and was a member of the public council under the Ministry for the Development of the Far East. He was awarded the Order of Honor, the medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree, medals “For Labor Distinction”, etc.
