Vice Mayor Efimov: Moscow will issue "green" bonds for the population

At the end of May, the Moscow Mayor’s Office will issue green bonds that will be available to residents of the city. Muscovites’ investments will be used to implement the most important environmental projects in the capital. The bonds will appear on the Finuslugi financial platform of the Moscow Exchange.

“The volume of bonds offered for placement will amount to two billion rubles, and their circulation period is two years. Coupon income will be paid quarterly. The interest rate on the bonds will be determined before the start of the placement based on market conditions,” said Vladimir Yefimov, Deputy Moscow Mayor for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations.

The vice-mayor clarified that only individuals can buy bonds for the population. These securities have no risk of loss of funds. The bonds will not be traded on the stock exchange and will not lose their value. Even if a person wants to return the bonds to the city ahead of schedule, he will receive income for the entire period of ownership.

The city will use the funds received to finance the replacement of diesel buses with electric buses. This will help reduce emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases. Residents will be able to independently influence the environment. The desire to involve citizens in important projects is the main reason for issuing green bonds.

It should be noted that in 2021 Moscow placed an issue of green bonds for 70 billion rubles, which were used to purchase electric buses and build a BCL.
