Venus Williams eliminated in the first round

Venus Williams, double winner of the event in 2000 and 2001, was eliminated in the first round of the US Open, beaten 6-1, 7-6 (7/5) by Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck (43rd), Tuesday At New York.

Unlike her younger sister Serena, who announced her next retirement in early August, which could well take place in the coming days at Flushing Meadows, the 42-year-old American has never mentioned this prospect. She is however quite rare on the courts, since it was her fourth game of the season, ended like the others by a setback. Her last won match dates back to Wimbledon in 2021. Venus, winner of 7 Majors in singles, however, is not done with the US Open, since she must play the doubles with Serena, who she managed to pass her 1st turn on Monday, beating Montenegrin Danka Kovinic, de facto postponing the deadline for his withdrawal from the courts.
