Venezuela and the United States have exchanged prisoners, according to a communiqué issued by the Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic, Alfred Nazaret.

The report said that two Venezuelans who were imprisoned in the United States were released. The Venezuelan government also announced the release “for humanitarian reasons” of US citizens who were serving sentences in the country.

As reported by the Venezuelan authorities, negotiations have been going on since March 5. “Succeeded in the release of two young Venezuelans who were unjustly imprisoned by the United States,” the communiqué says.

The number and identity of the US citizens exchanged by the Venezuelan authorities are not reported. Earlier, the media wrote that the delegations of the two countries were negotiating the release of Marine Matthew Heath, five ex-managers of the oil company Citgo and two more Americans.
