Vedomosti: children’s antibiotic cefuroxime disappeared from Russian pharmacies
[ad_1]
Children’s broad-spectrum antibiotic cefuroxime disappeared from Russian pharmacies, newspaper reported Vedomosti with reference to pharmacy data. Medicines are not available in pharmacies in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara and other large cities. Also, in some regional pharmacies there is no children’s antibiotic cefixime.
Problems with the availability of these medicines are confirmed by a survey of pharmacists conducted by the Association of Independent Pharmacies and the Smartpharma platform for pharmacists, the newspaper writes. The respondents also noted a shortage of amoxicillin + clavulanic acid (amoxiclav, augmentin), amoxicillin (flemoxin solutab), as well as a shortage of cefixime (supraks, pancef), azithromycin (sumamed), including their children’s forms.
According to experts interviewed by Vedomosti, problems with the availability of cefixime and cefuroxime in pharmacies are caused by a lack of drugs with the active ingredient amoxicillin + clavulanic acid for their production and logistical difficulties. Experts also note an increase in demand for antibiotics due to an increase in the incidence in the country. The publication’s experts added that it is unprofitable for many manufacturers to produce antibiotics in children’s form, as this is a niche product for a limited number of consumers.
