“VAR only makes it worse”: football player Andrey Kobelev shared his opinion on refereeing

On the air of MK, the famous football player and coach Andrey Kobelev spoke about the problems of the Russian national team and the work of VAR.

I’ve been there since I was 7 years old,” says Andrey Kobelev, a well-known football player and coach, winner of the European Youth Championship, two-time winner of the Russian Cup, who devoted almost his entire playing and coaching career to Dynamo Moscow, who won bronze medals at the 2008 national championship under his leadership. – All that I have acquired, including spiritually, is Dynamo. If we talk about today’s team, Dynamo now has a good choice of attack: Smolov, Tyukavin, Makarov, Zakharyan, Grulev. Another question is why they are not playing as they should now, but in terms of composition and potential, everything is fine.

When asked about refereeing matches, Andrey Kobelev said that he did not understand how VAR works: “I can honestly say that I do not understand how VAR works today, and how they set penalties is a mystery to me. It sometimes helps, of course, but we see that it often only makes things worse.”

The expert called the loss of the second league one of the problems of our national team: “We have lost the biggest layer – this is the second league. It would be better to return the old spring-autumn system and transfer everything from children to the Premier League there, as it was before. As for the Russian championship, today there are many ideas, but it seems to me that this will not increase the spectacle. I am for innovations to go to football, but not interfere with them. As far as European football is concerned, it is world football, all the best players play there, and we should focus on them.”
