Valeria Gai Germanika will direct the eight-episode historical drama “Princess Olga” for Channel One. The series will be an artistic rethinking of history based on real events of the 10th century, and will tell about the amazing fate of Grand Duchess Olga, the first ruler of Rus’ who converted to Christianity.
At the moment there is a preparatory period and casting. The series is slated to begin filming in mid-summer.
Director Valeria Gay Germanika: “For several years we have been discussing the possibilities of our cooperation with Mars Media and producer Ruben Dishdishyan. I knew that I wanted to do the best I could and be useful on a project that I felt only I could shoot. Now I allow myself to choose, I rarely shoot. And I like it, because creative power and some inner experience are being accumulated, which I can rely on. And we found a point of contact with the producers at the “Princess Olga”. I think this is my project, it takes me as an artist to a new level. I would not like to reveal all the secrets and tricks that were invented for this work. I have a very young group for a fresh take on a film of this genre. I have long wanted to shoot historical films and wanted to reconsider the look at it. I think there will be a lot of handheld cameras, long shots that create a sense of reality and immersion in the historical environment, in the context of what is happening.”
