Vaccines magazine confirms long-term efficacy of Sputnik V vaccine

Swiss scientific journal Vaccines published a study by Russian scientists confirming long-term protection against COVID-19 with vaccination with Sputnik V, according to the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) in Telegram channel “Sputnik V”.

“Sample analysis performed prior to revaccination of study participants showed that six months after primary vaccination with Sputnik V, 95.5% of patients retained an IgG response to the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which confirms the ability of the vaccine to form a high long-term protection against the coronavirus,” the fund’s press service said in a statement.

According to the study, protection against severe cases of the disease remains in 78% of those vaccinated. At the same time, scientists note that the level of antibodies after revaccination depends on the initial indicator immediately before vaccination. As stated in the article, to maintain strong immunity, regardless of age and level of antibodies before revaccination, an injection of a one-component preparation “Sputnik Light” is sufficient.

It is noted that the authors of the article examined 3983 blood serum samples obtained from vaccinated individuals aged 20 to 103 years. “Revaccination efforts should be directed primarily to patients in whom the level of antibodies to coronavirus has decreased the most over time, as well as to risk groups,” the researchers emphasize.
