Vaccination against new omicron strains begins in the US

Late last week, US regulators, like expectedapproved the mass application of Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna booster single-component vaccines against new Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 strains. First, the approval was issued by the Federal Office for Control of the Market for Medicines and Products (FDA), and then the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine can be used from the age of 12, the Moderna vaccine from the age of 18.
The approval from the FDA and CDC means that mass vaccination of the population against new strains of omicron could begin as early as tomorrow, September 5th. “The updated COVID-19 boosters are designed to better protect against currently circulating coronavirus variants,” said CDC Director Rochelle Walensky. “These booster vaccines will help strengthen protection that may have weakened since the last vaccination. If you have no contraindications and you are of the right age, there are no barriers to getting your booster vaccine – I strongly encourage you to do so.
