Uzbekistan proposed to open schools and kindergartens for migrants in the Russian Federation at the expense of the diaspora

Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan Kakhramon Kuranbaev, at a meeting with Vice-Speaker of the State Duma Vladislav Davankov, asked for assistance in opening private kindergartens and schools in Russia for children of labor migrants from the republic. According to his idea, institutions should be built at the expense of compatriots and work according to the Russian educational program.

According to Kahramon Kuranbaev, quoted by TASS, such a request arose against the backdrop of problems with placing children in kindergartens and schools among citizens of Uzbekistan working in Russia. Mr. Kuranbaev also proposed that the Russian authorities simplify migration procedures for young citizens of Uzbekistan coming to Russia.

By data FinExpertiza at the beginning of 2023; in 2022, the influx of labor migrants from Uzbekistan increased by 35.1% (377.7 thousand people). In the first quarter of 2023, according to data World Bank, more than 600 thousand citizens of Uzbekistan entered Russia.

On August 16, the head of the Russian Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights Valery Fadeev statedthat migrant children should not be enrolled in secondary schools if they do not know Russian. In his opinion, they need to be taught the language in special centers. On October 8, a bill was introduced to the State Duma that would prohibit migrants from working in medical institutions, pharmacies, schools, as well as in the taxi and cargo transportation industries.
