The fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk and Briton Tyson Fury will not take place. The promoter of the Ukrainian athlete Alexander Krasyuk told Sky Sportsthat negotiations on the terms of the battle were disrupted.
Usyk’s manager, Egis Klimas, said that despite the Ukrainian boxer’s willingness to compromise, “Fury was constantly putting forward new demands.”
The failure of negotiations on a unification fight for the world heavyweight title between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury was previously reported ESPN with reference to sources in the boxing teams. According to the interlocutors, Usyk closed his training camp and intends to plan his next fight.
Earlier, the World Boxing Association released a statement from its president, Gilberto Mendoza, in which the structure set a deadline for boxers – April 1 – to sign an official contract for the fight. If the parties do not sign it before the deadline, the WBA promised to arrange Usyk’s duel with British Daniel Dubois instead.
36-year-old Oleksandr Usyk is the reigning world champion in professional boxing according to the World Boxing Association (WBA), the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF). Tyson Fury, 34, is a World Boxing Council (WBC) belt holder.
