US announces elimination of all stockpiles of chemical weapons
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced the elimination of all chemical weapons in the country, RIA Novosti reports citing a press release.
McConnell represents the state of Kentucky, where the destruction of chemical weapons takes place at the Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD) special facility.
The report says that McConnell “praised” the enterprise for its work on the elimination of the last batch of chemical weapons in the country, and this event itself is called a “epoch-making” achievement. It is noted. That local and federal authorities worked together for about 30 years to achieve this goal.
Prior to this, the United States was the last state party to the Chemical Weapons Convention not to get rid of chemical weapons despite plans to do so. The liquidation of chemical weapons in the United States was carried out very late from the plan. Russia completed the elimination of its arsenal of chemical warfare agents in 2017 and also helped Syria to do so.
