Unprecedented hurricane demolished Florida in the USA: “Never seen anything like it”

Federal and Florida state officials reported, which will step up relief and rescue efforts amid widespread flooding caused by Hurricane Ian. More than 2.6 million people are already without electricity.

GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis said the state was making every effort to rescue thousands of people trapped in their homes as a result of the storm’s historic flooding.

DeSantis admitted at a briefing that perhaps the people of the state had never seen such a hurricane or such a flood. Eliminating its consequences and saving the population will require an emergency response in the coming days and years of efforts to restore what was destroyed.

As a result of the “500-year flood”, at least 15,000 people are now in shelters. Authorities prior to the start of the hurricane intended to evacuate more than 2.5 million residents.

In the most affected areas of the state, the height of the flood waters exceeded six feet (1.82 m). The water washed away large trees that collapsed on power lines and cut wires.

There is no official death toll yet. DeSantis reported two probable deaths. More clarity will come on September 30, when rescuers will be able to help those in isolation.

About 28 Chinook helicopters are currently operating in the region. Approximately 100 people are engaged in the restoration of bridges. Including Sanibel Causeway and Pine Island Bascule Bridge. They are currently impassable.

The Florida governor spoke by phone with US President Joseph Biden, who called the hurricane a major disaster. The head of state promised to allocate additional assistance to residents of nine districts of the state.

Hurricane Ian begins to subside. His speed dropped from 150 miles per hour (240 km per hour) to 65 (104 km per hour). It will likely soon move to the coast of Georgia, as well as North and South Carolina.
