As part of the experiment, the movement of unmanned trucks will be launched along the M11 Neva highway. Truck-drones can release the track on the M11 in the summer of 2023.
On the M11 Neva highway, an experimental legal regime (EPR) has been introduced, within the framework of which it is possible to move unmanned trucks along the highway.
One of the participants in the experiment, KamAZ PJSC plans to bring 5 unmanned trucks to the M11 highway in 2023, and increase their number to 50 in 2024, the Ministry of Economic Development reported.
“The introduction of an experimental legal regime on the M-11 Neva highway will allow in practice, in the conditions of a natural transport environment, to test the commercial use of unmanned truck technology, as well as clarify the nuances of legal regulation. The novelty of the experiment is the use of the “smart road” infrastructure for more efficient control of a vehicle in an automated mode,” said Anatoly Dyubanov, director of the Department for the Development of the Digital Economy of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia.
In addition to KamAZ, NPO StarLine, LLC Globaltruck Logistic, PJSC Magnit and X5 Logistics are participating in the project. The infrastructure operator is Avtodor.
According to Viktoriya Erkenova, Deputy Chairman of the Board for Intelligent Transport Systems and Digitalization of Avtodor, the infrastructure of the M11 highway meets the conditions for the movement of unmanned trucks. At least in the volumes that are agreed with KamAZ.
“The elements that are currently missing are at the development stage. And we hope that next summer we will be able to ensure the first passage of KamAZ drones on the M11,” Erkenova said.
According to experts, the use of unmanned vehicles on the roads has a number of advantages, including improving traffic safety, reducing fuel costs by almost a third, as well as creating new types of commercial activity.
