The Russian woman rebuffed the employee of the Bulgarian airport: “Are you going to tell me?”

The tourists were not allowed to withdraw the euro from them

A Russian woman caused a scandal at the Varna airport when a terminal employee tried to take euros from her. The conflict was resolved in favor of the woman. We learned what surprises Russian tourists can expect and what troubles property owners in Bulgaria face.

Tatiana left Bulgaria a few weeks ago. Departure from Varna. The woman spoke about the incident at the airport and shared tips on how not to lose foreign currency when leaving.

“My husband and I went through passport control, sat in the hall near the boarding gate,” says Tatyana. “Suddenly two men in uniform approached us. They were persistently interested in how much money we had with us. They demanded to see the bags.

The husband pulled out about 2,000 euros and a bunch of papers – documents for an apartment, car, insurance, marriage certificate, TIN. The airport staff carefully looked through everything, turned the bags inside out. The money was counted in front of the passengers, right in the hall, we were not taken anywhere. Then they asked me to open a lady’s bag.

By that time, I was already on edge. In my life I am very active, I always protect people. She asked the question: “What law have we violated?”.

They understood Russian, it would not be difficult for them to communicate in a language we understand. But they specifically spoke Bulgarian. I understood that they referred to the recommendations of the European Union. They stuck like leeches. It was clear that they just wanted to take our money.

My bag was checked. Then they began to mutter something about 300 euros, which are allowed to be transported. And then I could not stand it, I began to shout at one: “I was completely stunned. Are you going to tell me how much money to carry with you?”

After my screams, the men were confused. They waved their hand, grumbled, turned around and went to other Russian passengers.

What other problems do Russians have in Bulgaria, said Ekaterina, a resident of Burgas.

– The Russians faced difficulties in selling or buying an apartment in Bulgaria. It is difficult to transfer money here and there, so many people come to complete a sale and purchase transaction with their whole families in order to withdraw cash euros from the country, – says the woman. – I noticed that recently in Bulgarian chats ads for the exchange of housing began to appear. The people offer to exchange apartments in Moscow and summer cottages in the Moscow region for Bulgarian studios at no extra charge.

The Bulgarians also tightened the rules for entry into the country for Russians. If earlier property owners received a three-year multi-visa, now they are issued only a single-entry visa for three years. Well, who needs a three-year visa if you can only visit once for a period of 90 days? So now the owners of real estate make out the usual tourist multiple visas.

But it will be more difficult for ordinary tourists to get here. Since October 6, Bulgarian multiple visas are issued only if there are previously issued Schengen or Bulgarian visas in the passport.

– Are there still many Ukrainians?

Many left in September. Local media wrote that out of 100,000 refugees who arrived in March, about 12,000 remained. But in the last week, the Ukrainians are returning again. Mostly they come from Kharkov, Odessa and Kyiv. They say it’s not safe there now. Affordable housing for refugees is provided until the end of October. If the European Union allocates more funds to Bulgaria for immigrants, the program will be extended. But there is no understanding yet.
