University of Adelaide scientists discover snakes have clitoris

American scientists have made an interesting discovery. The researchers concluded that snakes have a clitoris.
According to the Daily Mail, scientists for the first time discovered an erogenous zone in nine different species of snakes. Studies have shown that females actually have two “hemiclitors” hidden on the underside of the tail and separated by tissue.
“We looked at some of the underlying cells and found red blood cells and nerves that correspond to erectile tissue – all signs of a clitoris,” said Dr. Crow-Riddell.
They then examined the genitalia of adult females of eight other snake species from Australia, Central America, South America, Africa and Arabia. Each of them found the same organ.
Researchers at the University of Adelaide say it’s likely that these “hemiclitors” provide snakes with pleasure during mating because they are composed of sensory nerve bundles and blood vessels. And are able to swell during mating. Or secrete lubricant to protect the female from the jagged penis of the male.
After all, male snakes and lizards have two “hemipenises” under their scales – tubular structures with a groove through which sperm can flow. They remain upside down inside the body until the moment of mating. Reptile hemipenises may be covered with sharp spines or hooks. Scientists believe that this type of penises was adopted as a result of evolution. This serves to ensure that they can only mate with their own species.
