UN Secretary General invited to BRICS summit in South Africa

UN Secretary-General António Guterres will be a guest of the BRICS summit in South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa said.
Speaking in an address to the nation, he noted that the UN Secretary General was invited to the event and would take part in it. Ramaphosa also said that in this difficult time, his country intends to help make the UN the center of global affairs. At the same time, he called for “genuine reform” of the UN, so that the organization becomes “more democratic, representative and effective.” Ramaphosa also called for a reform of the UN Security Council.
The BRICS summit in South Africa will be held from 22 to 24 August. Russia will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the rest of the countries will be represented by their leaders. At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in the event via video link.
