The Cabinet of Ministers of Sweden sent an instruction to the Chamber of Commerce to study the reasons for the sharp increase in exports to the republics of Central Asia and the Caucasus, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom reports. According to Swedish Foreign Trade Minister Johan Forsel, the growth in exports to post-Soviet states may have natural causes, but “it may also be due to the fact that sanctions are not fully observed.” After the investigation, the cabinet plans to develop measures that “would put an end to possible violations,” the official added.

According to the Swedish Statistical Office, the largest increase in Sweden’s exports to post-Soviet countries in the first five months of 2023 was allegedly recorded in Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan – by 200% compared to the same period last year. This is followed by Kazakhstan (140%), Armenia (69%), Uzbekistan (46%) and Azerbaijan (43%).
