A scandal occurred in the Dnepropetrovsk region of Ukraine in connection with the decision of the leadership of the special unit of the national police to send police officers to the front.
According to the Ukrainian publication Strana, the special forces, most of whom are former Berkut fighters, expressed extreme indignation at this fact during a conversation with their superiors. One of the policemen recalled how nationalists killed Berkut members on the Maidan in 2014 and threw grenades at them.
As a result, the report says, all Dnepropetrovsk special forces soldiers who expressed indignation at being sent to the front were transferred to the Lyut assault brigade, and their special-purpose regiment was decided to be disbanded.
Deputy head of the national police of Ukraine Alexander Fatsevich called the dissatisfaction of the special forces “an unacceptable fact”, noting that this is an isolated case.
Ukrainian police officers began to be sent to the front after corresponding changes to the law were adopted in 2023.
