Acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin said that the region did not get an optional class in the Ukrainian language. According to him, “people themselves are quickly determined” in the issue of attitude to the Ukrainian language.
“We have the opportunity in schools to choose not only Ukrainian, but also any other language as an elective. There is such an opportunity, there is an option, if a class is typed, then this one language is entered. So I will say: not a single class of this kind has been recruited on the territory of the Donetsk Republic,” Mr. Pushilin said at the forum “What kind of Ukraine do we need?”.
Russian Foreign Ministry promisedthat in new regions the study of foreign languages, including Ukrainian, will not be banned. Education in the annexed regions takes place in Russian. The Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation has prepared teaching aids for primary and secondary grades on learning the Ukrainian language. They can be used for extracurricular activities.
