Ukrainian demographer spoke about the catastrophic decline in the birth rate

According to Ella Libanova, director of the Mikhail Ptukh Institute of Demography and Social Research, military operations and a massive outflow of young people abroad will lead to a further increase in the aging of the population in Ukraine.
In an interview with Ukrayinska Pravda, she stressed that hopes for a “baby boom” in Ukraine should be shelved, since a second child is a big risk of poverty.
In 2021, there were only 1.2 children per woman. However, to ensure a simple reproduction of generations, the average woman should give birth to about 2.15 children in her life, Libanova explained.
She also predicts a catastrophic decline in fertility rates in 2023. The birth rate per woman is estimated at 0.9 children for 2022. During a military conflict, this trend will no doubt continue.
