Ukrainian lightweight boxer Denis Berinchyk entered the ring in the form of the nationalist battalion “Kraken” (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation).
His opponent was the Frenchman Ivan Mendy. Berinchyk defended his WBO international title.
The Kraken is notorious for its war crimes and includes ex-prisoners. As reported, he acted in the Kharkov region, where his fighters took away in an unknown direction those who showed sympathy for Russia. Previously, members of the Kraken were suspected of killing a Chilean-American journalist and demolishing the monument. The battalion commanders also “became famous” for bullying Russian prisoners.
On July 7, the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov, said that the Kraken battalion refused to obey the order of the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to move from Kharkov to the front line.
