Ukraine threatened Poland with a complaint to the WTO if the ban on grain imports was extended

Ukraine will file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) if Poland extends the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain. About it stated Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Taras Kachka in an interview with Bloomberg.
“The Polish market is not critical for us. It is critical for us to lift restrictions,” Kachka said.
According to him, in Kyiv they consider this decision of Poland to be erroneous and are ready for lengthy proceedings at the WTO.
The Ukrainian official also predicts that exports of agricultural products from Ukraine at the end of the current season will exceed 60 million tons compared to 68 million tons last year. He also said that the grain deal had lost its relevance.
Poland introduced a ban on the import of Ukrainian grain in April, and similar measures were taken by Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria to protect local agricultural producers, who suffered significant losses from cheap Ukrainian grain.
As a result, on May 2, the European Commission banned the export of grain from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, but allowed its transit and export to the rest of the EU countries. In early June, the EC extended this ban until September 15.
At the same time, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on September 8 that Warsaw will extend the ban on grain imports from Ukraine beyond September 15, regardless of what decision the EC makes on this matter.
