The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine will closely monitor compliance by Russian athletes with the conditions of neutrality, said the head of the department, Vadim Gutzeit. His statement is quoted by TASS.

According to him, special attention will be paid to “possible abuses of neutral status.”

Earlier, Acting Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matvey Bedny called the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to allow Russian athletes to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris in a neutral status “irresponsible”.

Bedny said that in light of new information, a decision on the participation of Ukrainian athletes in the 2024 Olympic Games will be made later, after consultations with the sports community and the country’s top political leadership.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the International Olympic Committee, by allowing Russian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympics in Paris in a neutral status, thereby “gave Russia the green light to use the Olympic Games as a weapon.”
