NATO countries are studying the issue of transferring funds to Ukraine from the fund, which was intended to support the Afghan army. Kyiv asked for an alliance to transfer part of this fund in the amount of $3.4 billion. This is reported by Politico, referring to five Western officials.
On this issue, the West does not cause much disagreement, but there are contradictions about the allocation of the amount set by Kyiv. In particular, this issue arises due to the high recession due to high inflation and rising energy prices.
The proposal to transfer part of the funds intended for the Afghan army came from the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense. The defense department noted that we are talking about the amount of 2.876 million dollars. It is noted that they intend to direct $2.154 million for the purchase of Lithuanian-made warm clothing for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the rest will be transferred to a comprehensive package of assistance from the North Atlantic Alliance for Kyiv next year.
