UK tests DragonFire laser weapons

The UK has conducted new tests of the DragonFire long-range laser directed energy weapon. The tests were carried out in the scientific and technological laboratory of the Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense in Porton Down. About it reported on the government website.

During testing, the DragonFire prototype was used to destroy several targets that require high accuracy in beam direction. The tests, the government said, make it possible to analyze the operation of laser weapons at a distance and their accuracy. The laser’s ability to achieve high power while accurately tracking a target demonstrates the effectiveness of the UK’s Laser Directed Energy (LDEW) program, the statement said.

DragonFire is a joint development of the manufacturer of rocket systems in Europe MBDA and the British laboratory Dstl. The laser installation allows you to specify the parameters of the target, options for its destruction. DragonFire can be used against unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as to counter artillery attacks. The main objective of the LDEW program is the safe control and focusing of high laser power at a set point at a great distance.
