Eighteen employees of the British prison Berwyn were fired for having had sexual relations with prisoners for several years, according to the Daily Mirror.

According to the UK Ministry of Justice, since 2019, 31 employees have been fired from prisons in Wales and England for having contact with prisoners.

More often than anywhere else, such violations occurred in the Berwyn prison – the largest in the UK.

At the same time, a representative of the prison service of the Ministry of Justice stated that there were relatively few violators against the general background.

“Most of the employees are honest and hardworking people,” he stressed, explaining that the service began to make more efforts to identify those who break the rules.

At the same time, the head of the union of prison workers, Mark Fairhurst, said that “the wrong women” are often accepted for service in correctional institutions – sometimes they are “taken even without a personal interview,” after talking with the candidate via Zoom.

Berwyn is known for its comfortable conditions for prisoners: there are no bars on the windows, they are allowed to watch TV or use phones and laptops.

Earlier it was reported that 3 employees of this prison were sentenced to several months in prison for intimate relationships with inmates.
