UJR doubted the possibility of bloggers to register as mass media

The Union of Journalists of Russia (UJR) doubts that it is possible to register bloggers as mass media. However, the chairman of the Union, Vladimir Solovyov, said that if some bloggers decide to register on their own, the UJR will only support this.

“This is another such proposal that is periodically thrown in to study this issue, but usually it does not end with anything. If some bloggers independently decide to register officially as mass media, we can only support and welcome this, of course, but we in the SZHR strongly doubt that this is possible, ”said Mr. Solovyov (quoted from “RIA News”).

Commenting on the initiative of the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education, Yana Lantratova, who proposed to include the activities of bloggers in the directory of activities, the head of the UJR suggested that “probably, it is possible to introduce”. At the same time, he believes that the activities of most bloggers have nothing to do with journalism.

“The vast majority of bloggers are engaged in making money or just some kind of independent creativity that has nothing to do with journalism or writing or anything else,” he added. Mr. Solovyov noted that only a small part of bloggers try to write daily on political, economic and social topics.

With a proposal to amend the All-Russian Classification of Economic Activities and indicate bloggers Yana Lantratov in it applied to the Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov. According to Ms. Lantratova, such a measure will help maintain a balance between the industry and the state and solve the problem of the legal status of an influencer (blogger).
