President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Aleksander Ceferin announced plans to discuss the possible removal of Belarus from Euro 2024. Belarusian clubs and the national team are still allowed to participate in international football competitions. MEPs have previously demanded that Belarus be excluded from the Euro 2024 qualifying tournament.

The German edition got acquainted with the written response of Mr. Čeferin to the demand of the MEPs sportschau. “UEFA has long intended to discuss the situation with Belarus at the upcoming meeting of our executive committee,” the heads of the organization said in a response. The next meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee is scheduled for April 4 in Lisbon.

As reported by the publication Politicomore than 100 MEPs this month called for the exclusion of the Belarusian national team from the Euro 2024 qualifiers due to “human rights violations committed by the regime of President Alexander Lukashenko.”

After the start of the military operation, Belarus fell under UEFA sanctions: the country is no longer allowed to host international games, and Belarusian clubs cannot play against Ukrainian teams in European competitions. However, unlike the Russian teams that were excluded from all UEFA competitions, Belarusian clubs and the national team are still allowed to participate in international competitions.

The Belarusian national team will play with Switzerland, Israel, Romania, Kosovo and Andorra in the Euro 2024 qualifying tournament. The first match is to be played against Switzerland on 25 March in Serbia.
