A child aged two years and nine months from the Republic of Buryatia needed a new liver due to paracetamol poisoning. About it reported Chief physician of the Zakamenskaya Central District Hospital Konstantin Erdyneev.
He said that on the night from Sunday to Monday, an air ambulance helicopter delivered a baby in extremely serious condition and he was hospitalized in intensive care.
The baby was urgently examined and it turned out that his liver function test had changed to critical values - the organ was being destroyed before our eyes. The only option to save the child is transplantation.
The head physician said that the child would be urgently transferred to the National Medical Research Center for Transplantology and Artificial Organs named after V. I. Shumakov. The situation is being supervised by Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko.
“The cause of the serious condition was an overdose of paracetamol: at a maximum dosage of 140 mg per 1 kg of weight, a child with ARVI was given 200 mg/kg for 2 days,” said Konstantin Erdyneev.
Earlier it became known about the death of a six-year-old girl in dental office in the Leningrad region. It was stated that her condition worsened after she was given an anesthetic to remove a tooth.
