As part of the “Russia” exhibition in the Rosneft pavilion at VDNKh on April 13, the results of the all-Russian vote on choosing names for polar bears were summed up. The company’s press service noted that the acceptance of proposals began on March 26, and voting for the best names for two Yakut bear cubs took place on April 5.
In the Yakut Zoo, a pair of polar bears, Klyman and Lomonosov, bear offspring for the third time. This time two babies were born. The names for the cubs were chosen by the people themselves. Eight thousand people took part in the voting. The 10 best pairs of names for the bear cubs were selected. The leading position was taken by the pair of names Vilyuy and Yana, for which 40.22% voted.
The idea of naming the cubs exactly these names was suggested by eight-year-old Podolsk resident Ivan. He has a great interest in travel and recently read a book about Yakutia. As a result, he decided to name the polar bears after the Yakut rivers.
For his idea, Ivan received a memorable gift from the oil workers. In addition, the authors of two other pairs of names from the top three received prizes. Maria and Nadezhda from Yakutia suggested the options of Tim and Tom and Lookut and Nyurgusun.
