A new hunt for the Loch Ness monster has begun in Scotland: security cameras have been installed

Volunteers are being recruited to observe the legendary monster

The Loch Ness Center in Scotland turned to space researchers at the American NASA and other university scientists with a request to share their experience for a new hunt for the monster.

In 2023, one of the largest search efforts on Loch Ness ended with a hydrophone recording loud underwater sounds and several potential objects for scientific observation.

The new search efforts will coincide with the 90th anniversary of the first organized surface expedition to Loch Ness. It will be held under the direction of Edward Mountain from May 30 to June 2. Volunteers are currently being recruited to monitor the surface of the lake and monitor the appearance of cracks in the water. They will be informed about what to look for and how to record the results.

Since the first Monster Spotters expedition in 1934, there have been more than 1,156 sightings of the monster recorded in the official register of Loch Ness sightings.

In 2023, Scotland’s revamped Loch Ness Center partnered with the independent volunteer research group Loch Ness Exploration (LNE) and hundreds of in-person and virtual volunteers to explore the famous waters of Loch Ness.

The Loch Ness Centre, which reopened in 2023 after a major refurbishment, is located in the old Drumnadrochit Hotel, where hotel manager Aldie Mackay says a “water beast” was seen in Loch Ness 90 years ago.

Loch Ness Center chief executive Paul Nixon said: “Last year we brought one of the biggest searches for Nessie to the world’s attention in history, with participants from America, Canada, France, Italy, Japan and beyond. With the unexplained sounds we’ve heard, as well as possible sightings, we’re determined to learn more about the elusive Loch Ness Monster this year.”

He added that “in addition to asking novice monster hunters to help us in our quest, we’re asking experts for help.” The new research will be the largest in history, as equipment will help uncover the lake’s biggest secrets.

What does NASA have to do with it? Explaining how the National Aeronautics and Space Administration can help, Loch Ness Center marketing manager Aimee Todd explained: “We hope to reach them through social media. We just hope that their expert guidance will help us in our ongoing search for answers. We want to believe that NASA experts have some advanced technology to produce images to scan the lake.
