Two Far Eastern leopard kittens strayed from their mother were rescued in Primorye

Specialists removed from the wild two lost one and a half month old kittens of the Red Book Far Eastern leopard, the press service of the Land of the Leopard National Park in Primorsky Krai reported.
The kittens have lost their mother. They were at risk of death from frostbite and starvation.
They were found on the road near the borders of the National Park “Land of the Leopard” in the Primorsky Territory. Kittens have only recently learned to walk. They were caught. This is the first time that rare leopards have been forced to be removed from the wild at such a young age. Park specialists noted that there were no such cases even with tigers.
The national park suggested that the kittens strayed from their mother because of the high snow cover. The region experienced heavy snowfalls in mid-December. Around the clock surveillance was established in the area, it was expected that the mother would find them. Experts did not find traces of adults.
It is noted that during the examination by veterinarians, the kittens showed the natural behavior of wild animals. Now they are in quarantine.
“It is likely that the mother took the kittens out of the den for the first time and tried to take them to prey, but the family was separated by the Razdolnoye-Khasan highway. In difficult conditions, the kittens could be frightened of open spaces, could not cross the asphalt and follow their mother, ”the Leopard Land release says.
