Twitter removes blue checkmarks from Kardashians, Beyoncé, Pope, Zelensky and Medvedev

Twitter, the largest microblogging social network, has begun removing blue checkmarks from verified user profiles. This measure was taken as part of the tightening of the account verification process and the introduction of more transparent rules, according to CNN.

Twitter said that the tightening of the verification process was due to problems with the company’s mission and values, which were previously violated by some verified accounts. According to Twitter, many of these profiles did not meet the established requirements and violated the rules of the platform.

Among famous and popular people, model Kim Kardashian, singer Beyoncé, billionaire Bill Gates, Pope Francis have lost their ticks. Also now there is no verification badge for actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Samuel Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Chris Evans and many others.

Actors Ben Stiller and Linda Carter, as well as singer Ciara, wrote about the loss of their checkmarks in a playful manner.

At the same time, the writer Stephen King, who had previously entered into a dispute with Elon Musk because of his unwillingness to pay for verification, did not lose his tick. However, he assures that he did not pay for Twitter Blue, although his account indicates that he did.

Some government agencies, including the official account of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services and the accounts of some state customs and border services, also lost their blue ticks. They were replaced with gray ticks that Twitter puts for government accounts. This affected Ukrainian and Russian politicians – President Vladimir Zelensky, First Lady Elena Zelenskaya, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and others received gray ticks.
