This morning, the Director General of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Olivier Niggli, admitted that the organization has no evidence of the involvement of coach Eteri Tutberidze in the violation of anti-doping rules by her ward Kamila Valieva.

Kamila Valieva was disqualified due to a positive doping test taken on December 21, 2021 during the Russian Championship in St. Petersburg. The banned drug trimetazidine was found there. The athlete stated that she followed the rules of RUSADA and did not knowingly take doping. According to her, the substance could have entered through a dessert prepared by her grandfather. He was taking medications containing the drug. The athlete could not explain the presence of ecdysterone in the body (stimulates muscle growth), which was also found in the samples, and could not remember that she had ever taken it.
