Turkey refuses to give in to the US in the talks on the congestion in the straits

Turkey and the United States held talks on the situation with the congestion in the straits on Turkish territory. Ankara is still insisting on providing insurance documents for oil ships, a diplomatic source in Turkey said.
According to the interlocutor, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal and US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo held a telephone conversation. Onal pointed to the importance of the safety of navigation, as well as life, environment and property in the Bosphorus, which passes through the largest metropolis of Istanbul.
The Turkish side noted that Protection and Indemnity Insurance (P&I) insurance would be invalid for tankers transporting oil from Russia at a price above the limit.
Recall that Turkey introduced an additional insurance requirement for tankers with crude oil from December 1. Ankara requires a letter from insurance companies confirming the provision of P&I insurance to the vessel. After the entry into force of the innovation off the coast of Turkey, a traffic jam formed from tankers, among them there are Russian ones.
