The risk of an autarky scenario in the Russian economy – i.e. isolation, high protectionism and self-reliance – is very low, but in the event of further geopolitical escalation, this option is possible, experts of the CMASF write in the study “What’s Next? Outlines of long-term forecast scenarios”. According to their estimates, the probability of such a development of events is 10-15%.
Russia will never follow the path of self-isolation and autarky, “despite the fact that our Western friends, so to speak, literally dream of it,” said President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the SPIEF plenary session in June. The President noted that we are expanding and will continue to expand cooperation with those who are interested in this, who want to work with us, and “there are many of them.”
