Tsiskaridze spoke about his last day of life: “There is no easy death”

“Don’t know. I can’t imagine, but we have to be very cynical about this. I remember very well how my mother told me that she would die one of these days. Then I thought about it a lot. She was very calm then. She was not many years old – only 62 years old, but when the nanny told me that she would leave soon, she was already over 80. She said that she wanted to die faster: “I can’t do it anymore. I’ve already lived, I don’t want to.” I remember how I fought with her. If someone had told me when I started dancing that I would leave the stage and my role so easily, I would not have believed it. But I remember very well how I wanted to finish it all, because I was really suffering. I had to dance like Nikolai Tsiskaridze, but it was very difficult, and I didn’t want to lower the bar. I reached out and said: “That’s it!” Nobody knows what the feeling will be on the threshold. He fell asleep and didn’t wake up – this is probably a gift, because the person had no idea. But I listened to an interview with a doctor who said that there is no such thing as an easy death. It’s a big pain. As my teacher Galina Ulanova said, no one has returned from there and no one has said anything yet,” Tsiskaridze concluded.
