Trutnev: over 44 thousand people in Primorye suffered from the August floods

During a meeting held in Vladivostok, Yuri Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister and presidential envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, reported that more than 44,000 residents of Primorye were affected by significant floods in August. He also noted that the total damage was estimated at more than 7 billion rubles, and 46 bridges were destroyed.
In his speech, the plenipotentiary stressed the importance of conducting an analysis and determining preventive measures that would prevent similar natural disasters in the future. He also expressed the need to monitor the condition of bridges and other infrastructure and timely eliminate problems.
In mid-August, floods in Primorye were caused by downpours that came along with Typhoon Hanun and the polar front. As a result, thousands of houses and roads were flooded. In addition, the region was severely affected by heavy rainfall on 23 and 25 August. In response to what happened on August 25, a state of emergency at the federal level was declared in Primorye. The preliminary damage from the flood was estimated by the head of the Primorsky Territory, Oleg Kozhemyako, at 7 billion rubles.
Then, on August 29, downpours again occurred in the south of the region due to the southern cyclone, cutting off dozens of settlements.
