Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) informedthat Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to return to her the icon “Trinity” by Andrei Rublev. Now it is in storage at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
As stated in the message of the Russian Orthodox Church, the decision was made “in response to numerous requests from Orthodox believers.” It will be exhibited for public worship in the Cathedral Church of Christ the Savior within one year with the blessing of Patriarch Kirill. After that, it will be exhibited at the Trinity Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra.
July 16, 2022 Trinity taken out from the Tretyakov Gallery to the Trinity Cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra at the personal request of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’. The icon spent two days in the Lavra, when divine services were held there dedicated to the 600th anniversary of the finding of the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh. Employees of the Tretyakov Gallery opposed the movement of the icon.
The Ministry of Culture stated that the icon was transported to Sergiev Posad in a specially made climate display case. July 19 “Trinity” was returned to the Tretyakov Gallery. Press Service of the Museum wrotethat “no visible signs of deterioration have been identified.”
