Andrei Rublev’s “Trinity” was delivered to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on the eve of Christmas. The icon was brought from the All-Russian Art Scientific and Restoration Center named after I.E. Grabar, where she was under observation in a special climate-controlled room, reported Russian Orthodox Church.

“Trinity” will be located during the celebration of the Nativity of Christ in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, where Patriarch Kirill will conduct divine services. “The image of the Holy Trinity was placed in a special icon case and installed near the right choir of the temple. Metropolitan Gregory, co-served by Bishop Kirill, Archpriest Georgy Martynov and Archpriest Andrei Marushchak, performed a prayer service in front of the image of the Holy Trinity,” the Russian Orthodox Church said in a statement.

The transportation of the “Trinity” was attended by Deputy Head of the Ministry of Culture Sergei Obryvalin, Deputy Head of the Department of Museums and External Relations of the Ministry Natalia Chechel, Director of the Research and Restoration Center named after I.E. Grabar Dmitry Sergeev, chief curator of the Tretyakov Gallery Tatyana Gorodkova and cleric of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior Archpriest Georgy Martynov.

The Trinity icon was painted in the 15th century. It is considered the only surviving icon created entirely by Andrei Rublev. It depicts a plot from the Old Testament about the appearance of God in the form of three pilgrims: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In 1929, the icon was transferred to the Tretyakov Gallery. Spring 2023 became known about the decision of President Vladimir Putin to transfer this icon to the Russian Orthodox Church.

How scientists propose to ensure the safety of the icon outside of museum conditions – in the material of Kommersant “Where should we put the Trinity”.
