In Moscow, the number of accidents involving scooters, bicycles and unicycles is growing every year. Most often, the “drivers” of fashionable gadgets crash into poles or stumble on bumps, curbs or speed bumps. What to do if a summer pleasure trip through the park on a scooter led to the traumatologist’s office, and how to protect limbs from bruises and sprains, doctors told MK.

Wakeboard, roller skates, scooters, skateboards, bicycles and unicycles – all these fashionable transport gadgets should be approached carefully, doctors say. Otherwise, injury cannot be avoided. And the trip can end not only with a banal bruise or abrasion.

– I have a patient, she has been engaged in wakeboarding for three years, – said the doctor – traumatologist-orthopedist, deputy head physician “Open clinic” Artur Glumakov. “She has hurt her knee ligament several times already. What water sports, what land – they all require skills and abilities. But in our country, people perceive them as a form of recreation, just to spend time with friends. This usually ends with them coming to the doctor with a ligament injury or, worse, their back.

Even experienced professional athletes have a risk of injury. But if a beginner jumps on the same skateboard with no preparation at all, the chance of getting a sprain or fracture is close to 100%. Therefore, doctors warn: for any kind of summer sport, you need the right selection of equipment and at least a few sessions with an instructor.

Most often, scooters get to traumatologists. Moreover, most of the patients are teenagers, in whom the instinct of self-preservation is not yet fully formed. But even more unpleasant is that, in addition to the lovers of fast driving along the sidewalks, random passers-by get to the doctors, whom they knock down.

“We get a lot more injured people in the summer because of scooters. This is not only a matter of personal, but also public safety. This mode of transport is very dangerous. The fact that they are trying to somehow regulate this area is right. Scooters ride two or three. This is very traumatic. There are a lot of options for injuries: falls, collisions, someone was knocked down, and so on, – says Artur Glumakov.

You can get serious damage without accelerating. According to medical statistics, scooters get a lot of injuries at a speed of no more than 10 km / h.

– If it is a head-on collision, you can get a very serious injury. In my practice, there was a case when two scooters collided, one with a helmet, the second without a helmet. For the one who was without a helmet, everything ended very sadly. Scooters are closer not to a bicycle, but to a motorcycle, the doctor warns.

Before approaching any sports gadget or even going for a banal morning run, doctors advise doing a circular warm-up. The body should be as warm as possible. Otherwise, joints unprepared for the load will not cope. This is fraught with injury: it is worth slightly twisting the foot, and the running story will end.

Physiotherapist, reflexologist at the Open Clinic on Prospekt Mira Marianna Yasneva recommends that patients who still have a sports “summer” injury do not self-medicate.

“The injury needs to be treated well. Often, patients think that everything will go away on its own. And then they sit for six months, waiting for it to pass. And they keep going to the gym. In this case, the compensation mechanism is activated. Completely different muscles are connected to relieve the load from the damaged area. It ceases to function completely, and then other muscles that have taken on overwork also turn off. As a result, we have a combined injury, – explains Marianna Yasneva.
