Transfer market: Sirigu joins Naples

Italian goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu, free since the end of his contract with relegated Genoa, has signed with Napoli, the Campania club announced on Thursday, which will be one of four Italian representatives in the Champions League.

As always in Naples, the arrival of the experienced 35-year-old goalkeeper was made official with a message on Twitter from club president Aurelio De Laurentiis: “Welcome Salvatore!”

The former goalkeeper of Paris-SG (2011-2016) is a priori destined to be the understudy of current holder Alex Meret, or another possible goalkeeper among those whom Napoli would be tracking according to the media: Kepa Arrizabalaga of Chelsea or Keylor Navas from PSG.

The Italian European champion (28 caps) played 246 matches in Serie A. Despite his experience, he could not avoid relegation from Genoa last year.
