A team from the Trans-Baikal Territory took first place in the combined relay race of the 7th Spartakiad of Russian pensioners, which was held in the city of Togliatti. This was reported to “MK in Chita” in the press service of the Union of Pensioners of Russia.

More than 670 amateur athletes (with a qualification not higher than a candidate for master of sports) from 73 regions of the country participated in the final of the competition. The age limit for women was set at least 55 years, for men – 60 years.

They competed for medals in seven sports: track and field (thousand-meter cross-country and combined relay), 50-meter swimming, shooting, volleyball, table tennis, chess and darts. In addition, at the Spartakiad, the standards of the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Complex “Ready for Labor and Defense” (TRP) were passed.

The combined relay has become one of the most spectacular parts of the Spartakiad. This year it consisted of eight stages: Nordic walking, running relay, hitting a soccer ball on a hockey goal, darts, throwing the ball into a basketball basket, chasing and dribbling with obstacles, running with a tennis racket, as well as overcoming barriers under the bar. Trans-Baikal athletes coped with this in 2 minutes 42.3 seconds.

66-year-old team member Natalya Mirina spoke about the team’s strategy. It was built based on the capabilities of each participant. The oldest, 73-year-old Tsyregma Dagbayeva, was going to be assigned to throwing darts, but it turned out that she would first have to run 120 meters to the target and back. Therefore, Dagbaeva was entrusted with Nordic walking. The idea was justified – despite 10 penalty seconds, our fellow countrymen won back the first step of the podium.

Recall, as part of the rehabilitation program for elderly Transbaikal residents who suffered from coronavirus, a program of free access to fitness rooms was launched. There were so many applicants that sports centers could hardly cope with the load.
